Allyson Felix and Alysia Montaño advocate for motherhood in sports

American track and field athletes are highlighting the intersection of motherhood and professional sports. Allyson Felix, the most decorated athlete in the history of the sport, has announced a comeback with the goal of competing in the 2028 Olympics. Felix stated that her motivation stems from a desire to challenge societal expectations for women over 40 and to set a work ethic example for her two children.

In a related effort to support female athletes, Olympian Alysia Montaño has launched the Mother in Sport Collective. This initiative follows her experience of losing health insurance and facing contract threats during pregnancy. The collective aims to partner with businesses to end discriminatory practices against mothers and families in the sports industry. Several brands, including Lululemon, Hoka, and Strava, have already joined the mission to advocate for better conditions for women in sports.
