Alma app provides safety check-ins for people living alone

Developer Bastian Matzen has created Alma, a mobile application designed to provide security for individuals living alone and peace of mind for their relatives. The app allows users to signal that they are safe with a single daily tap.

If a user fails to complete their daily check-in, the app triggers an automated alarm chain that notifies a sequence of predetermined emergency contacts until someone confirms they are assisting. The system is designed to function even if the phone is turned off or the battery is depleted, and it can transmit the user's last known location.

Beyond emergency alerts, Alma facilitates personal connection by allowing users to share photos and short messages with trusted contacts, aiming to separate routine safety checks from meaningful social interaction.
