Alma Delia Murillo wins Premio Bellas Artes de Narrativa Colima
Alma Delia Murillo has won the 2026 Premio Bellas Artes de Narrativa Colima for her novel “Raíz que no desaparece”. The award is presented by the Mexican Secretariat of Culture and the National Coordination of Literature of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), in collaboration with the University of Colima.
The prize includes a diploma and 300,000 pesos. The novel follows the story of Ada, a woman searching for her missing son through premonitory dreams. The narrative explores themes of disappearance, memory, and the connection between humanity and nature, using the landscape of Mexico as a witness to preserve memory.
The jury praised the work for returning “names, bodies, dreams, and memory” to a tragedy often reduced to administrative statistics and files. Murillo noted that this is her first literary prize and expressed hope that the book will help visibility for the stories of thousands of Mexican families.
