Alma Reina Teatro launches national tour of 'La Contadora' in southern Chile

The Antofagasta‑based company Alma Reina Teatro is beginning a national tour of "La Contadora," a stage adaptation of Hernán Rivera Letelier’s novel. The production, a 50‑minute monologue, will be performed in Puerto Montt in August before moving to Concepción. Director and actress Pamela Meneses portrays 18 characters alone, centering on María Margarita, a young girl who narrates movies and embodies the resilience of the desert salt‑peter communities.

Meneses, a longtime friend of Letelier, said the work rescues the identity of the northern pampas and brings the region’s cultural memory to audiences in the far south of Chile.
