Almada water supply cuts scheduled nightly through July 17

The municipality of Almada has activated a contingency plan that imposes total water supply interruptions in designated zones each night between 22:00 and 06:00, running from 12 July to 17 July. The cuts affect areas such as Pragal, Charneca de Caparica, Laranjeiro, and several other neighborhoods, with service to be restored gradually after each interruption.

The water regulator ERSAR warned that tap water may appear whitish due to air in the pipes after the cuts, but confirmed that the water remains safe for human consumption. Essential services—including hospitals, health centres, care homes and fire stations—will continue to receive water, and tankers will be deployed where needed. A new water‑intake well, expected to increase system capacity by about 20 %, is slated to become operational within weeks, with officials estimating that the current supply constraints could be resolved in two to three weeks. Residents are urged to limit use to essential needs and avoid wasteful consumption.

The plan also calls for reduced pressure in the network and ongoing communication through official channels to keep users informed about scheduled interruptions and restoration progress.
