Almada water reserves hit 78%, prompting gradual easing of supply cuts

Municipal water authorities in Almada announced that average water reserves have risen to 78%. The Services Municipalizados de Água e Saneamento (SMAS) and the Almada City Council said the improvement allows a cautious, phased reduction of the emergency measures introduced during the drought alert.

In the first phase, scheduled water cuts will no longer occur on weekends, and daytime interruptions will be shortened, generally limited to the 01:00‑06:00 window. Specific cut schedules for neighborhoods such as São João da Caparica, Laranjeiro, Feijó, and others were detailed for the coming days. Parallel to the supply adjustments, a gradual reinstatement of irrigation in selected public parks and private zones will begin, following technical tests to ensure efficient water use.

The authorities emphasized that the gradual resumption of private irrigation will be coordinated with existing public‑irrigation rules to maintain efficient water management across the municipality.
