Almada water supply alert extended to August 31

The Almada City Council in Portugal has extended the municipal water‑supply alert until 31 August 2026. The decision follows water‑supply failures earlier in July and cites average water reserves of 78 % as of 30 July.

The council warned that higher August temperatures and increased tourist demand could strain supplies, so it maintained restrictions on garden irrigation, public beach showers and other non‑essential uses. Night‑time supply cuts may be reduced or suspended where operational indicators allow, with any changes communicated at least 48 hours in advance. Municipal swimming pools remain closed, except for a single weekday pool that will operate under set hours, while other sports facilities resume normal use under water‑efficiency measures.
