Alman Kids launches Alman LIS to promote Italian Sign Language

Alman Kids and the CREI (Cooperativa Sociale di Interpretariato, Ricerca e Formazione LIS) have launched ‘Alman LIS’, a new YouTube project dedicated to Italian Sign Language (LIS). The initiative aims to integrate sign language into the digital universe of Alman Kids, a major Italian children's entertainment brand.

The project features a new character, Serenella, a mermaid portrayed by deaf professional Deborah Donadio. Serenella will join existing characters like Lucilla, the Sun Fairy, to deliver content through music, play, and movement. Starting on September 24, coinciding with International Week of the Deaf, the channel will release weekly content including songs performed in LIS and short videos teaching specific signs.

Designed for both deaf and hearing children, the project seeks to foster inclusion by allowing hearing children to learn LIS through imitation while providing deaf children with a relatable protagonist. The Alman Kids YouTube channel currently reaches a significant audience with over 1.5 million subscribers and approximately 2 billion views.
