Almansa hosts IV Municipal Archives Conference of Albacete

The city of Almansa hosted the IV Municipal Archives Conference of the Province of Albacete, an event organized by the Provincial Council’s Archive and Document Management Service. The conference brought together professionals from various municipalities to share experiences and address challenges in document management and the conservation of historical memory.

Key topics of discussion included the organization and preservation of documentary collections, digitization efforts, storage and consultation conditions, and the implementation of new technologies to facilitate information access. The event highlighted the dual role of municipal archives: managing administrative documents related to citizen rights and obligations, and acting as custodians of historical, cultural, and social heritage.

To support these efforts, the Provincial Council is working on digitizing municipal collections and integrating them into the Provincial Archives Portal. Local officials, including Almansa Mayor Pilar Callado, emphasized the importance of archives as guardians of collective memory and advocated for adequate funding to protect these historical assets.
