Almería and Badajoz short‑film festivals open competitions
The Provincial Council of Almería has launched the call for entries to the "Almería en Corto" competition, the flagship short‑film section of the International Film Festival of Almería (FICAL). The submission deadline is 14 August and the festival’s 25th edition will be held in November. A total prize fund of €28,600 will be awarded, including €7,000 for the best international short, €4,000 for the best national short and several regional and thematic awards, as well as a special Amnesty International prize for human‑rights values.
The 32nd Iberian Film Festival (FIC) began in Badajoz, with its opening short‑film programme running simultaneously in Badajoz, Olivenza and San Vicente de Alcántara and expanding to Don Benito, Campo Mayor and Elvas. The five‑day event runs until 10 July and showcases works from Spain and Portugal. Admission is €2 in Badajoz, free in the other venues. A jury comprising actors, cinematographers and producers from both countries will select the winners of the official short‑film section.
