Almería and La Algaida host summer festivals

The municipality of La Algaida inaugurated its 45th Fiesta del Pimiento, running from 31 July to 2 August. Mayor Carmen Álvarez presented the program, which includes the coronation of festival queens, musical performances, a round‑table discussion with senior residents, recognitions for local pepper growers and cooperatives, a charity raffle and pepper tastings. Álvarez highlighted the event’s role in honouring farmers and promoting the region’s horticultural products.

In Almería, the annual Feria de Almería opened on 21 August. The cultural promoter Diego Ferrón Rodríguez was named the fair’s pregonero, while university professor Fátima Pérez Ferrer served as the oradora for the “Los Coloraos” ceremony on 24 August. The fair, celebrated in honour of the Virgen del Mar, combines traditional festivities with cultural and inclusive initiatives championed by the organizers.
