Almería City Council addresses waste management and mobility studies

The Almería City Council is addressing two major urban infrastructure developments: waste management updates and future mobility planning.

Regarding waste management, Councilor Antonio Urdiales explained that a contract modification approved in February has caused delays in deploying new waste containers. This change was intended to introduce units with superior technical specifications to optimize service. Implementation has begun in neighborhoods such as El Zapillo and La Vega de Acá. The new containers will feature QR codes, allowing citizens to scan them for real-time information on cleaning and maintenance activities.

On the topic of urban mobility, Mayor María del Mar Vázquez announced that the City Council is preparing a comprehensive study to determine the future of public transport in the capital. While the council rejected a specific motion from the PSOE regarding a light rail feasibility study, officials stated they are not dismissing the tram option. Instead, they intend to conduct a modern analysis that considers current urban configurations and technologies, moving beyond a 2010 study that proposed a 10-kilometer network connecting Torrecárdenas to the University.
