Almería commemorates Blessed Diego Ventaja Milán

The Diocese of Almería will observe the liturgical memory of Blessed Diego Ventaja Milán on Sunday, August 30. The commemorations include a Pontifical Mass at 11:00 h at the Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, followed by a procession at 19:00 h in honor of the Virgin of the Sea Coronada and Saint Indalecio.

Bishop Antonio Gómez Cantero will preside over the ceremonies. Diego Ventaja Milán, who was appointed Bishop of Almería by Pius XI in 1935, was martyred during the social and political unrest of 1936. After refusing to flee his diocese, he was imprisoned and eventually executed in the ravine of ‘del Chisme’ in Vícar during the early hours of August 30.
