Almería community sports program attracts hundreds in debut weekend

The 'Patios Abiertos' program in Almería saw high engagement during its first weekend, with over 300 participants attending activities at the Adela Díaz, Rafael Alberti, and San Gabriel schools.

Promoted by the Almería City Council's Sports and Active City Area, the initiative originated from a proposal by the Nueva Andalucía Barrio Amable platform and is managed by the Asociación Vereda Colectiva. The program transforms school courtyards into public spaces for sports, play, and community coexistence during weekends.

Activities included cycling, skating, athletics, basketball, juggling, and traditional games. A multidisciplinary 'Zombie Apocalypse' game was particularly popular among both children and adults. The program offers a mix of organized workshops and free play, aiming to provide accessible neighborhood spaces for various ages.
