Almería crop production and Argentine consumer demand show divergent trends

In Almería, Spain, horticultural production has decreased due to adverse weather conditions and pests. Despite lower volumes, the total commercial value has risen because of increased prices for key crops. Cucumber prices rose approximately 36%, while zucchini saw a 34% increase, aided by limited supply and reduced competition from countries like Morocco. Eggplant production fell by about 9%, but its average price climbed 34% due to low temperatures and high humidity slowing crop development.

In Argentina, data indicates a decline in mass consumption and consumer confidence, contrasting with President Javier Milei's claims of record production. While official INDEC figures show growth in certain sectors due to rising utility tariffs and high-end goods, private reports show a different trend. A study by Scentia based on 8,000 points of sale revealed that in July, retail shipments fell 0.6% and wholesale shipments fell 0.5%. Significant drops were noted in kiosks and small stores, which fell by 6.1%, though e-commerce and pharmacies saw increases.
