Almería invests in Christmas lighting and holiday markets
The Almería City Council is advancing preparations for the 2026-2027 Christmas season through several major contracts aimed at boosting tourism and local commerce.
A contract for extraordinary Christmas lighting has been awarded to Iluminaciones Ximenez S. A. for approximately 970,238 euros. The project includes the supply, installation, and maintenance of lighting across nearly 50 streets and public spaces. Key features include 200 arches, three-dimensional figures, and large 18-meter illuminated fir trees in Puerta Purchena and Plaza de las Velas. The renovated Paseo de Almería will also serve as a central hub for the festivities.
Additionally, the city has opened a tender for the Christmas Market, with a base budget of 109,626 euros. The plan includes the installation of up to 70 wooden stalls and 15 food stands, primarily located in Avenida Federico García Lorca and Parque Nicolás Salmerón. The market is scheduled to operate from November 25, 2026, through January 10, 2027.
