Almería launches Plan Savia 2026 to enhance urban greenery
The Diputación de Almería has announced the 2026 edition of Plan Savia, an environmental initiative aimed at enhancing urban landscapes and sustainability across the province. With a direct investment of 334,552 euros, the plan will benefit 52 municipalities and impact 98 population centers, including various neighborhoods.
The program involves the distribution of 25,711 plants to support up to 323 urban and landscape improvement projects. The shipment includes 510 palm trees, 2,951 large trees, and over 21,500 perennial plants and saplings. According to José Antonio García Alcaina, president of the Diputación, the strategic goals are to mitigate climate change effects, improve air quality, increase urban biodiversity, and provide shade for residents during summer months.
Since its inception in 2014, Plan Savia has provided free plants to local councils, resulting in a cumulative provincial investment exceeding 3 million euros. This decade-long program has reportedly helped create more than 1.6 million square meters of new green areas.
