Almería Mayor honors boxer José María Hernández López

Almería Mayor María del Mar Vázquez hosted a municipal reception for boxer José María Hernández López, known as ‘El Gallo’, following his victory as the Spanish professional boxing champion in the flyweight category.

Hernández López, representing the Almería Boxing Club, secured the national title via unanimous decision after ten rounds against Madrid-based boxer Juan José Hinostroza, ‘El Bravo’, in San Isidro-Níjar. This victory marks the first time a professional boxer from Almería has won a national title since 1974, ending a 52-year drought for the city.

The reception included Hernández López’s trainer, José Cilla, and young boxer Samuel Cilla. Mayor Vázquez praised the achievement, noting that the title represents years of hard work and serves as a testament to the effort and talent of Almería’s athletes.
