Almería police investigate fatal shooting of Antonio Santiago Santiago

Authorities in Almería, Spain, are investigating the fatal shooting of Antonio Santiago Santiago, which occurred early Wednesday morning near a recycling plant in the Sector 20 industrial estate. The victim, a municipal cleaning service worker, was shot multiple times while heading to his vehicle.

The homicide has drawn significant media attention due to the victim's familial connection to the high-profile 2002 murder of Montserrat Fajardo. Antonio Santiago Santiago was the brother of Juana Santiago, who is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for that crime.

Paco Fajardo, the father of Montserrat Fajardo, has publicly denied any involvement in the shooting, addressing public speculation regarding a potential family vendetta. Meanwhile, the Government Sub-delegate in Almería, José María Martín, has urged caution and discretion, stating that investigators must wait for the official police inquiry to conclude before determining the motive or identifying the perpetrators.
