Almería promotes active tourism through mountain sports events

The Almería province in Spain is hosting several events focused on active tourism and outdoor sports to promote its natural landscapes and interior municipalities.

The sixth edition of ‘La Burrica Trail’ took place in the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park. Organized by the Club Deportivo Villa de María with support from the Almería Provincial Council and local authorities, the event included mountain running and hiking. This edition was incorporated into the X Provincial Mountain Running Circuit of Almería and the 2026 Popular Traverse Cup of Almería.

Additionally, the third NaturAlpujarra Active Tourism Meeting concluded in Laujar de Andarax, drawing over 150 participants across eight municipalities in the Alpujarra Almeriense region. Part of the Retural program by the Diputación de Almería, the event featured activities such as canyoning, via ferrata, gravel routes, hiking, and wellness sessions. Local officials noted that these initiatives aim to combine sports and tourism to drive economic revitalization in rural areas.
