Almería PSOE demands clarity on construction delays and proposes light metro study

The Socialist Party (PSOE) in Almería is raising concerns regarding urban infrastructure and mobility within the city. The municipal group has demanded clarity from Mayor María Vázquez regarding the completion date of the Paseo de Almería remodeling project. Originally scheduled for a twelve-month duration starting in December 2024, the project has faced two successive extensions, with the most recent deadline of September 30 passing without completion. The PSOE has criticized the project for delays, design modifications, and rising costs, noting the negative impact on local economic activity.

In a separate mobility initiative, the PSOE has announced a motion to the City Council to commission a feasibility study for the implementation of a light metro or urban tram system. The proposal seeks to analyze potential routes, passenger demand, and integration with existing bus networks to address the needs of Almería’s growing population. The motion also calls for the involvement of the Junta de Andalucía in the planning and potential development of this high-capacity public transport system.
