Almería Western Film Festival to honor Eli Wallach posthumously

The Almería Western Film Festival (AWFF) has announced that the 2026 ‘Leone in Memoriam’ award will be presented posthumously to American actor Eli Wallach. The honor recognizes his significant contributions to the western genre, specifically his role as ‘Tuco’ in Sergio Leone’s 1966 masterpiece, ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’.

The award ceremony is scheduled for October 9 during the 16th edition of the festival, held from October 8 to 12 in Tabernas, Spain. The event will take place at the MiniHollywood Oasys film set, where many scenes from the classic film were originally shot. Wallach’s daughter, actress Roberta Wallach, will travel from the United States to accept the award on his behalf.

The celebration coincides with the 60th anniversary of ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. The ceremony will conclude with a symbolic burial and the unveiling of a commemorative tombstone to be added to the local pantheon.
