Almere residents warned of rising mouse activity as temperatures drop

As temperatures drop, residents in Almere and surrounding areas are seeing an increase in reports of mice seeking warmth and food inside homes. Pest control experts note that the transition to colder weather in October typically drives rodents from green spaces, parks, and forests toward residential buildings.

Infestations are not limited to older properties; new constructions are also vulnerable through crawl spaces, cavity walls, and gaps around pipes or ventilation openings. A mouse can enter through a hole as small as six millimeters, roughly the thickness of a pencil.

Signs of an infestation include small black droppings, chewed food packaging, rustling sounds in walls or ceilings, and a musty odor. To prevent entry, experts recommend sealing gaps around pipes and meter cupboards with steel wool or sealant, using draft strips under doors, and storing food in airtight containers.
