Almeria hosts commemorations for John Lennon’s 1966 film stay
Julia Baird, sister of John Lennon, stated during the opening of the II John Lennon Days in Almeria, Spain, that extensive local documentation has provided her with more insight into her brother’s time in Almeria than his life in Liverpool.
The event commemorates the 60th anniversary of Lennon’s arrival in the province in 1966 to film ‘How I Won the War’, directed by Richard Lester. Baird visited the Casa del Cine, formerly the Finca de Santa Isabel, which served as the musician’s residence during that period.
Baird credited local researchers, specifically J. Adolfo Iglesias, for their exhaustive work in documenting Lennon’s stay. She noted that the tranquil surroundings of the estate, including a nearby school, reminded her of the childhood environment Lennon shared with her near Strawberry Field in Liverpool.
