Regional environmental and infrastructure initiatives underway

Various regions are implementing environmental and infrastructure measures to address waste management and climate-related risks. In Argentina, the province of Jujuy has signed contracts to remediate open-air landfills in the Zona Valles, including the Perico site, through the GIRSU Project. In Paraná, the municipality is conducting preventive works in Bajada Grande to improve water drainage ahead of the El Niño phenomenon. Additionally, residents in Reconquista are cleaning canals to prevent flooding, while in Concepción del Uruguay, authorities are managing the impact of the rising Uruguay River on the Banco Pelay complex.

In Mexico, authorities in Querétaro are developing a circular economy strategy in the Sierra Gorda to process organic waste via composting. In Juárez, cleaning crews are removing illegal debris from public spaces. In the metropolitan area, Interapas has performed deep cleaning of the Pemex bridge pumping system to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

In Colombia, the community of Ipiales led a cleanup initiative for the Blanco and Chiquito rivers to protect local water sources.
