Almirante Brown teachers strike after assault on educator
Teachers in Almirante Brown, Argentina, organized a district-wide strike and a symbolic embrace of Primary School No. 36 in the San José neighborhood following a physical assault on a teacher. The incident occurred last Friday when a mother, responding to a meeting summons, entered the school and physically attacked a teacher in front of his students. The assault reportedly involved strikes to the teacher's head, shoulders, and back after he intervened in a conflict involving the woman's daughter.
In response to the violence, several teacher unions, including AMET, SUTEBA, FEB, and UDOCBA, held a demonstration under the slogan ‘schools are territories of peace.’ Beyond protesting the specific attack, union representatives expressed concern regarding a broader climate of social violence and economic hardship affecting the educational community. They are calling for the continuation of an intersectoral table to discuss a parity agreement for protection and reparation regarding acts of violence and harassment in the workplace.
