Almonte breeders demand dialogue over Doñana marsh access

Livestock breeders and horse breeders from Almonte are demanding institutional dialogue following recent restrictions on accessing the Doñana marshes. The National Association of Marismeño Livestock Breeders reported significant difficulties entering the 'marisma gallega' area, located in the municipality of Hinojos.

Association president Diego Díaz criticized an “excessive deployment” of security forces last Sunday, which initially prevented breeders from reaching their animals. The breeders maintain that their presence in the area is based on centuries of local tradition and have announced plans to pursue legal action to defend their interests and the presence of their livestock.

The Almonte City Council has expressed support for the breeders. Councillor for Equine and Livestock, Antonia Maraver, stated that the situation should have been handled through “normality, dialogue, and knowledge of the livestock reality of Doñana.” To resolve the conflict, the Council intends to convene the Doñana Participation Council to clarify the criteria and regulations used to limit access to the area.
