Almonte Councilor Santiago Miguel León detained for alleged domestic abuse

Santiago Miguel León, the Councilor for Economy and Finance in Almonte (Huelva), has been detained following a complaint of alleged domestic abuse filed by his partner. Following a rapid trial, León was released with charges, and protective measures have been established for the woman involved.

Political leaders in Almonte are calling for León to be removed from his government positions. The PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) has demanded that Mayor Francisco Bella take political responsibility and clarify whether he continues to support the councilor. The PSOE emphasized that while they respect the presumption of innocence and the judicial process, the gravity of the allegations requires the councilor to step down from his public duties to set an example regarding violence against women.

León, a member of the independent party Ilusiona, did not attend the most recent municipal plenary session, which was subsequently suspended due to the indisposition of the municipal secretary.
