Almuñécar and Alcaucín grapple with municipal infrastructure failures

The town of Almuñécar in Andalusia has been plagued by a series of construction setbacks after digging up the Paseo de La Caletilla, leaving the main artery and the municipal market without reliable access and causing prolonged traffic disruptions.

In the nearby municipality of Alcaucín, a major break in the main water‑supply pipe has forced the interruption of drinking water to virtually the entire rural area, affecting dozens of hamlets such as Zárate, Arenal and Los Torcales. Local officials say repairs are underway to restore service as quickly as possible.

Both incidents highlight ongoing challenges for small Spanish municipalities in maintaining and upgrading essential infrastructure.
