Almuñécar International Jazz Festival Kicks Off with Paquito D’Rivera
The Almuñécar International Jazz Festival runs from 21 – 26 July in the park El Majuelo, set against the backdrop of the historic San Miguel castle. The opening ceremony honours Paquito D’Rivera, who receives the festival’s gold medal and leads his quintet for the inaugural concert.
The programme features six nights of performances, including the Joe Lovano Paramount Quartet on 22 July, a collaboration between Chico Freeman and the Francesca Tandoi Trio on 23 July, and a special project titled “New Sketches of Spain” by Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana on 24 July, celebrating the centenary of Miles Davis’s birth in 2026.
Organised by the Almuñécar City Council, the festival showcases a mix of Latin jazz legends and contemporary European artists, offering both residents and visitors a diverse musical experience in a unique coastal setting.
