Alojzy Kocman to receive state funeral honors in Wrocław

A state funeral will be held for Alojzy Kocman, a member of the Polish independence organization ‘Service for Poland's Victory’, on September 25 at the Grabiszyński Cemetery in Wrocław.

During the German occupation, Kocman operated a contact point in his Cieszyn inn, where he facilitated meetings for organization members and staff. His activities included distributing funds to families of those arrested, storing forged document blanks, and hiding a duplicator used by the ‘Retaliation Union’ to print leaflets and manifestos, including those directed at Wehrmacht soldiers.

Kocman was arrested by the Gestapo in July 1941 and sentenced to six years of hard labor by a German court in Katowice. He died in a prison in Racibórz on September 21, 1942. His remains were located by the Institute of National Remembrance in November 2023 during search operations at the Jeruzalem cemetery in Racibórz. Following identification processes, his identity was officially confirmed, allowing him to be buried with honors 84 years after his death.
