Alondra de la Parra conducts community orchestra at Paax GNP festival in Xcaret

Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra led the closing concert of the fifth edition of the Paax GNP Festival at the Gran Tlachco Forum in Xcaret, Riviera Maya. More than 8,000 spectators watched 121 children from the Armonía Social youth orchestra perform alongside 40 professional musicians of La Orquesta Imposible. The program featured works such as Sibelius’s “Finlandia,” Mozart’s “Symphony of the Toys,” Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, and Mexican classics like Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 and José Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango. De la Parra used the event to stress that “la práctica orquestal es parte fundamental de la educación humana, y debería ser un absoluto derecho para todos los niños mexicanos,” highlighting music as a tool for social inclusion and education in southeastern Mexico.
