Alovė opens new ‘Laisvalaikio sala’ recreational space

A new active leisure and recreation area named ‘Laisvalaikio sala’ (Leisure Island) has opened in Alovė. Spanning nearly 30 ares, the modernized space features paths, benches, a children's playground, and outdoor fitness equipment.

The project transformed a site that had previously been used as a latrine for many years. The area is illuminated and designed to be accessible for people with disabilities. To reflect local heritage, the design incorporates symbolic motifs such as a sun wheel representing family and life, a spiral representing time and movement, and three golden Alovė symbols representing unity.

Alytus District Mayor Rasa Vitkauskienė attended the opening, noting that the space was designed to serve all community members, including children, youth, parents, and seniors. The opening ceremony included local officials and representatives from the ‘Susiedai’ community organization.
