Alparslan Doncu regains hearing via bionic ear surgery

Three-year-old Alparslan Doncu has regained the ability to hear sounds following a successful bionic ear surgery in Adana, Turkey. Born with hearing impairment that progressed to a 95 percent loss, the child was treated at the Adana City Training and Research Hospital.

The procedure, provided free of charge through a program by the Turkish Ministry of Health, involved implanting a bionic ear in his right ear. Following the surgery, Alparslan has begun to distinguish the direction and source of sounds.

Prof. Dr. Talih Özdaş, an ENT specialist, noted that while the child can now hear sounds, he requires ongoing speech and language therapy to develop the ability to understand spoken language. The family reported significant improvements in the child's daily life, noting he can now locate family members by their voices.
