Alpe Adria Green urges halt to C0 channel project

The non-governmental organization Alpe Adria Green has issued an open letter to the Slovenian government calling for the immediate halt of the C0 channel project. The organization argues that the project poses an unacceptable risk to the drinking water infrastructure serving approximately 400,000 people in Ljubljana.

Alpe Adria Green claims the project is unconstitutional and technically unsound, noting that it was not built according to seismic area regulations and lacks a required environmental impact assessment. They further dispute the notion that completing the channel is necessary to secure European Union funding, suggesting instead that the real threat to funds stems from incomplete wastewater treatment plants and missing household connections in southern Ljubljana.

The group emphasized that the potential loss of tens of millions of euros in EU funds is incomparable to the potential ten-billion-euro damage caused by destroying a primary water source. They have called for full transparency and criticized state authorities and inspection services for failing to address alleged irregularities involving the Municipality of Ljubljana.
