Alpe Rauz wind farm project cancelled due to economic unfeasibility
The planned wind farm at Alpe Rauz in Klösterle has been cancelled following measurements conducted by energy provider illwerke vkw. Data collected over a year revealed that the wind field is too inconsistent and the wind potential is insufficient for economic operation.
According to Christof German, CEO of illwerke vkw, the site averaged only approximately 1,000 full-load hours, significantly lower than the 2,000 hours typically achieved by the company’s wind farms in Germany. Given the high investment costs associated with the alpine location, the project was deemed unfeasible. The company noted that while it remains committed to wind power, projects must be economically and ecologically viable.
Other potential sites in Vorarlberg, such as Klaratsberg in Egg, are still being considered for future wind energy measurements.
