Vuelta a España: Heat and climbing losses impact Roglic and Houle

The Vuelta a España continues to face challenges from extreme heat and intense competition. During the 14th stage, leader Enric Mas extended his advantage over Primoz Roglic, who lost 25 seconds on the climbs to the Sierra de la Pandera. Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe director Patxi Vila noted that while Roglic feels well, Mas has shown remarkable consistency and is difficult to beat on ascents. Roglic will look to regain time during the upcoming 32-kilometer time trial.

Extreme temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius have significantly impacted the peloton. Hugo Houle of Alpecin – Premier Tech abandoned the race during the 14th stage, citing an inability to maintain power due to the heat and climbs. His teammates Francesco Busatto and Sente Sentjens also recently exited the race. Additionally, Jordan Labrosse of Decathlon - CMA CGM was forced to abandon the 14th stage after 68 kilometers due to the demanding conditions.

In response to the weather, organizers have decided to shorten the 15th stage from approximately 190 kilometers to 110 kilometers to ensure rider safety.
