Alpenverein Vorarlberg promotes inclusive mountain activities

The Alpenverein Vorarlberg is expanding initiatives to make mountain activities more inclusive for people with and without disabilities. The organization has developed a new guide to assist instructors in planning tours that accommodate individuals with mobility impairments, visual impairments, or cognitive disabilities.

In the Montafon region, the association has already partnered with Special Olympics to organize inclusive hiking, climbing, and mountain hut visits. Efforts include testing trails with wheelchairs and handbikes to identify obstacles and improve accessibility. Additionally, two mountain huts have been upgraded to better accommodate day guests.

In a separate regional context, the Allgäu Alps offer beginner-friendly hiking routes, such as the trek to the Tannheimer Hütte. While suitable for those with basic fitness and steady footing, the route requires proper equipment and preparation for those new to mountain environments.
