Alphabet Disbands AlphaFold Team, Shifts Researchers to Gemini
Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has dismantled the DeepMind team that created AlphaFold, the AI system that predicted protein structures and contributed to the 2024 Chemistry Nobel Prize. The decision is part of a strategic realignment that redirects resources toward the Gemini large‑language model and other scientific initiatives such as enzyme design, nuclear fusion and genomics.
Around one‑quarter of the original full‑time authors of the AlphaFold papers have either left DeepMind or been reassigned.
