Alphabet expands workforce by nearly 12,000 employees

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has increased its workforce by 11,830 employees over the past year, bringing its total headcount to 198,933 as of June 30, 2026. This expansion occurs despite a broader trend of layoffs and restructuring across the technology sector involving companies like Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft.

The company reported strong financial results for the second quarter of 2026, with revenues rising 24% year-on-year to $119.8 billion. A significant portion of this growth occurred in the second quarter of 2026 alone, during which Alphabet added more than 4,000 employees.

Alphabet is simultaneously accelerating its investments in artificial intelligence and data centers, raising its capital expenditure forecast for 2026 to between $195 billion and $205 billion. While the company expands, internal concerns regarding job security have persisted, with approximately 4,500 Google employees in the United States previously signing a petition addressed to CEO Sundar Pichai regarding labor protections.
