Alphabet raises $45 billion in record equity sale to fund AI expansion

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced a multi‑year equity offering that raised US$45 billion in its first tranche, surpassing the previous world record set by Brazil's Petrobras. The company plans a second tranche of US$40 billion, bringing the total capital raised to US$85 billion. The proceeds are earmarked for a major expansion of artificial‑intelligence infrastructure, including new data centers, as part of an expected US$180‑190 billion capital‑expenditure program for 2026. Chief Executive Sundar Pichai detailed the offering on X and at the Google I/O conference, noting that demand far exceeded expectations. Berkshire Hathaway alone committed about US$10 billion, and Alphabet reported first‑quarter revenue of US$110 billion, a 22 % year‑on‑year increase.
