Alphabet launches $80‑$85 bn equity raise to fund AI infrastructure build‑out

Alphabet announced an equity financing program of up to $85 billion to expand its artificial‑intelligence compute infrastructure. The plan includes a $10 billion private placement to Berkshire Hathaway, a public underwritten offering of $30‑34.75 billion, and a $40 billion at‑the‑market program that will begin in the third quarter. Proceeds are slated for capital expenditures to scale AI data‑center capacity, networking, cooling, and specialized chips, as well as to cover tax obligations linked to employee equity vesting.

The company said the move reflects “strong demand for its AI solutions and services … at levels that are exceeding the company’s available supply.” Alphabet’s capital‑spending forecast has been lifted to $180‑$190 billion for 2026, with further increases expected in 2027. Analysts note the raise signals the capital‑intensive nature of the AI boom and underscores the competitive race for compute resources. The financing is among the largest equity offerings ever, eclipsing the previous $70 billion record set by Petrobras in 2010.
