Alphabet posts 24% revenue growth, cloud up 82% as AI spending jumps
Alphabet reported second‑quarter 2026 revenue of $119.8 billion, a 24% year‑over‑year increase, and earnings per share of $9.11, well above analysts’ forecasts. Net income rose to $112.1 billion, driven largely by $98 billion in unrealized gains on equity investments.
Google Cloud generated $24.8 billion in revenue, up 82% from a year earlier, with operating income climbing to $8.8 billion and a backlog of $514 billion. The company raised its full‑year capital‑expenditure outlook to $195‑$205 billion to fund AI infrastructure, leading to a negative free‑cash‑flow of $5.9 billion for the quarter.
Despite beating expectations, Alphabet’s shares slipped about 3% in after‑hours trading amid investor worries over the massive AI spend. CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted broad AI adoption – nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise and the Gemini app has 950 million monthly active users – and said the AI investments are “redefining what’s possible across every part of our business.”
