Alphabet to Join Dow Jones, Replacing Verizon on June 29

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, will replace Verizon in the Dow Jones Industrial Average on 29 June 2026. The move follows a 20‑for‑1 stock split that the company completed in 2022 to meet the index’s eligibility criteria; Verizon currently accounts for about 0.5 % of the Dow’s weighting.

Ahead of the inclusion, Alphabet’s shares have been under pressure, closing at $345.29, below the 20‑day and 50‑day exponential moving averages. Technical indicators show a daily RSI of 36.98 and bearish MACD momentum, with the price testing the lower Bollinger Band around $341.63. Analysts note that while the index addition could act as a catalyst and trigger ETF rebalancing, the stock’s broader trend remains fragile.

The Dow Jones addition is expected to influence fund managers who track the index, potentially prompting modest portfolio adjustments as the new component is incorporated.
