Alphen aan den Rijn hosts festival week and urban redesign
Alphen aan den Rijn is preparing for the Alphense Feestweek, a series of community events running from September 11 to September 16. The festivities include a fair at Mulderveld, the 44th Oldtimer Day featuring classic vehicles in the city center, and the 35th Taptoe, which includes a street parade and musical performances by marching bands at Lauraplein.
In a separate urban development project, the empty forecourt of the Adventskerk in the city center is set to be redesigned. Following the removal of three diseased chestnut trees last year, new landscaping will begin in early October and conclude in late November. The plan includes raised planters with one large characteristic tree and three smaller trees, wooden benches with armrests, and updated atmospheric lighting. Alderman Chantal van den Berg stated the design focuses on greenery and color to create a lively space for rest and social interaction.
