Alphen aan den Rijn to replace iconic chestnut trees

The municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn has announced plans to replace the iconic chestnut trees that were previously felled in the city center near the Adventskerk. The trees were removed due to chestnut bleeding disease, which posed a safety risk to pedestrians and cyclists.

The new greenery plan includes planting three trees on Julianastraat—one large specimen and two smaller ones—with the possibility of an additional tree depending on the species selected. In addition to the trees, the project will feature two large stone-rimmed planters filled with multi-stemmed shrubs and new benches to enhance the urban space.
