Alpheus Mangale resigns from Absa Group board
Alpheus Mangale has resigned from his position as an independent non-executive director of Absa Group, effective October 8. In a statement to shareholders, Absa cited personal reasons and future commitments for his departure. Mangale will also step down from the group’s risk and capital management, remuneration, and information technology committees.
This resignation follows news that Mangale, who serves as the CEO of Seacom, has been placed on special leave pending an independent investigation into allegations regarding how Seacom is being managed. Seacom chairman Pieter Uys described the leave as a “precaution” and noted that it does not imply guilt. During his absence from Seacom, group CFO Charl Slabbert has been appointed as interim CEO.
