Alphonse Djédjé Mady, former Ivorian minister and PDCI-RDA leader, dies at 81

Alphonse Djédjé Mady, a prominent figure in Ivorian politics and medicine, has passed away at the age of 81. He died on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

A trained urologist and academic, Djédjé Mady held several high-ranking positions throughout his career. He served as the Minister of Health from 1981 to 1989 under President Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

In the political sphere, he was a key leader within the PDCI-RDA, serving as its Secretary-General starting in 2002 and later as Vice-President. He also served as the campaign director for Henri Konan Bédié during the 2010 presidential election. Additionally, he was the first president of the Haut-Sassandra Regional Council and served as a Member of Parliament.
