Alphonso Davies aims to be fit for Canada’s World Cup opener

Canada’s 25‑year‑old left‑back Alphonso Davies, who plays for Bayern Munich, is working a recovery plan after a left‑hamstring injury suffered in the Champions League semifinal on May 6. The injury follows an ACL tear in March 2025, and both the Canadian national team and Bayern have coordinated his rehabilitation.

Davies told reporters that the first World Cup match on June 12 in Toronto against Bosnia‑Herzegovina is “possible” if his recovery proceeds well. Coach Jesse Marsch reiterated that Canada will not rush him and will avoid unnecessary risks. Davies described the period as mentally draining, saying he has doubted himself but remains focused on returning for the tournament.

If fit, Davies would join Canada’s 26‑man roster for the opening game and could be a key player for the host nation’s campaign.
