Alphonso Davies cleared for Canada's 2026 World Cup group match
Bayern Munich left‑back Alphonso Davies has been confirmed fit to join the Canadian national team for its second group‑stage game of the 2026 World Cup against Qatar. After missing the opening 1‑1 draw with Bosnia‑Herzegovina due to a month‑long thigh muscle tear suffered in the Champions League semi‑final, Davies trained this week and was cleared by coach Jesse Marsch. The coach said Davies will be available as a substitute and could be used as a “joker” if needed. Davies, who began his career with the Vancouver Whitecaps before moving to Bayern in 2018, hopes his return will help Canada secure its first World Cup win and improve its chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
